Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (NES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (NES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Tecmo's 1990 NES game, Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos.

An excellent follow-up to the original Ninja Gaiden, even though (in going against the popular grain), I don't think it was quite as good as the first, even though it is much easier, and significantly less frustrating as a result.

The graphics are hugely improved and the soundtrack is great, but the story feels a bit lacking this time... (as it will even more so in NG III). Also, the shadow ninja powerup idea was really cool, but it was kind of unnecessary and extremely distracting. Either way, NGII is a completely worthy update to the classic Ninja Gaiden, as long as you play the NES original, and ignore the pretty awful Amiga and DOS versions (GameTek... why? Did you really feel that publishing Rare's game show adaptations gave you the necessary chops to take on one of the NES' action classics???)
